Frequently Asked Questions
| | Can I mix picket and glass railings together? Yes. Many of the same parts are used in both systems. It is very common to have glass railings on the deck and picket railings on the stairs. We also install glass on stair railings. |
Do you do custom fabrication? Definitely. We also love the challenge of a custom design. If you see a design you like or find it in a magazine, bring it in. More than likely, we can build it.
Can the railing system be used on concrete? Yes. Special mounting hardware may be required depending on your conditions.
How tall are your railing systems? Standard heights for guardrails are 36” and 42”. The standard height for hand rail varies between 34” and 38”. Our railings are designed and fabricated to meet all applicable building codes.
What if my project has non-standard angles? We can custom build any angle to match your existing site conditions. With the use of computer aided design (CAD), we can easily produce complex designs.
What is powder coating? Powder Coating is part paint and part polyester sealer/resin. It is an advanced yet simple way of spraying a fine dry plastic powder paint onto a metal surface. The part is then placed in an oven where it melts and flows into a beautiful uniform and durable finish.
What Does Maintenance-Free Mean? Railings made of aluminum will not rust, stain, peel or fade.
How far can the posts span on a railing system? Generally, we space our posts as far apart as possible to maximize your view. Actual distances vary and are dependent on railing style and mounting surface.
What type of glass is used? We use 1/4” or 3/8” tempered glass for our standard railing system.
How do you clean the glass? You use a soap and water mixture and to clean the glass then rinse with clean water. Another recommended cleaning method is to use RainX to keep the water spots off your glass.
Do we ever use Plexiglas? Only in some of our custom designs, if specifically requested. We try to avoid it because it will scratch easily and tends to yellow over time.
Do your railings pass North American building codes? Yes, Apex railings meet the International Building Code and International Residential Code.
